Overview

Richardson adopted some 2012 ICC codes – IBC, IRC, IMC, IFGC, IPC, IECC and IFC, all effective January 1, 2014. Richardson, Tex., Ordinance 4006 (April 22, 2013).

The City amended the 2012 IRC, but did not amend Table R301.2(1) Climatic and Geographic Design Criteria. Richardson, Tex., Ordinance 4006 (April 22, 2013).

The City amended R904.5 Fire Classification [of roofs] as follows:

"R904.5 Fire Classification. The minimum roof coverings installed on buildings shall be Class C. Unclassified wood shingles or shakes shall be permitted for repairs on existing unclassified wood shingle or shake roof coverings, if not more than 25 percent of the roof covering is replaced in any 12-month period.""

The City adopted Appendix D [Fire Districts] of the 2012 IBC, and also amended the 2012 IBC. Richardson, Tex., Ordinance 4006 (April 22, 2013). 

Existing Buildings

The city amended Chapter 34 [Existing Buildings and Structures] by adding a new subsection “3408.1.1 Change in tenancy or ownership”, to read as follows:

"3408.1.1 Change in tenancy or ownership. It shall be unlawful to make a change in tenancy or ownership of any existing building or lease space without first making application for and obtaining approval for a certificate of occupancy.""
